  • Performance Management

Performance management is an ongoing process throughout the year, with a formal performance review conducted annually. The intent is to communicate and review job performance expectations, provide constructive feedback, document accomplishments, and jointly formulate performance development plans.

In light of the pandemic’s major impact on the university and our administration, Human Resources is reevaluating and reconfiguring our performance management process.

The primary aims of the performance management process are to enable each individual to define expectations and goals; to facilitate open, honest feedback and communication; to identify strengths and areas in need of development; and to recognize outstanding performance.

The following plans will be implemented for 2020-2021:

    • HR will transition from an annual model to an approach that includes ongoing feedback and multiple touch-points throughout the year. The first touchpoint will be used for goal setting in January, followed by check-ins during the year and a formal review in MyDay conducted next summer.
    • Supervisors should use these guidelines and resources immediately and into the future, as managing performance, giving feedback, and maintaining transparent, productive relationships is an ongoing iterative process that is essential to strong leadership.
    • During the 2020-2021 academic year, HR will conduct training (both live over Zoom and through recordings) with the aim of ensuring a comprehensive and fair process, acknowledging the dedication and flexibility of our staff during this time, and offering constructive and compassionate feedback to facilitate improvement where necessary.
