Students can combine study of liberal arts and music in the Contemporary Music program at Lang at The New School. Pursue a designated major (BA, Contemporary Music), a minor, or a self-designed major (BA or BS, Liberal Arts). You can also study music as part of the Arts in Context concentration (BA, The Arts).
Contemporary Music at Lang is a liberal arts program that emphasizes the cultural and social significance of music in today’s world. You'll explore the global diversity of contemporary music, examining topics including popular music; traditional music history, theory, and criticism; and the
evolving technologies used in composing, producing, performing, and listening.
