Degree Requirements

  • This page outlines requirements for the degree in Culture and Media (BA, Culture and Media). Students can also study this subject as a minor or a self-designed major (BA or BS, Liberal Arts).

Requirements for the Culture and Media Major (BA, Culture and Media)

The major in Culture and Media requires completion of the thirteen (13) courses outlined below. Of these, two (2) must be practice-based and two (2) must be at the 4000 level or higher. A senior project, once approved, can stand in lieu of one of the 4000-level courses.

Students must receive grades of C or better in all courses taken to fulfill major requirements. The minimum grade for Core courses is B. Receiving a grade lower than a B requires retaking the Core course if you want to continue with the major. A grade of D in a non-Core LCST class cannot be counted toward the major (although it can still count for overall credits). In addition, a minimum GPA of 3.0 is expected for all students intending to declare in Culture and Media. (Slightly lower GPAs can be accepted if the student receives an A in the Introductory course connected to their track, or both Introductory courses, if the student is mixing and matching between tracks.)

Only specific courses satisfy the major requirements, including electives. Courses should be chosen carefully, in consultation with the chair of the program. Track your progress using the requirements worksheet (see below). To see which courses fulfill these requirements, visit the Lang course finder.
