Parsons School of Design has offered students innovative approaches to education since its founding in 1896. Today we’re the only American art and design school within a comprehensive university, The New School, which also houses a rigorous liberal arts college and a progressive
performing arts school. Our undergraduate and graduate programs, offered through Parsons’
five schools, immerse students in focused training, interdisciplinary inquiry, and practice-based collaborative learning. Here creators and scholars master established art and design fields and advance emerging ones while studying a range of university disciplines.
Guided by renowned faculty and curricula, a diverse international community disrupts the status quo, fostering social and environmental good and preparing for an evolving workplace. New York City is home to Parsons’ main campus and a range of creative practitioners and industries. Parsons Paris offers students an atelier-like setting from which to explore heritage brands and traditions, new technologies, and a host of art, design, and business partners in Europe and beyond. Together, these complementary learning communities make Parsons a singular launchpad for a creative education and career. What Parsons brings together can set you apart—read how below.
Today, as industries and fields of study merge and branch off into new realms, artists and designers work freely in a range of disciplines. Parsons’ integrative studios, seminars, and projects familiarize you with tools and techniques from across the creative spectrum and let you explore alongside peers in other degree programs. But you don’t collaborate only with Parsons students; you also work with policy analysts, management students, sustainability experts, social innovators, journalists, and performers throughout a comprehensive university, developing new insights and capacities. A growing array of
minors in subjects including foreign languages, environmental studies, and psychology and study abroad options further enrich your interdisciplinary practice. Parsons’ integrative curriculum draws on all disciplines to elevate your creativity and help you thrive in a dynamic global landscape.
The Parsons community challenges conventional thinking, fostering environmental and social sustainability through thoughtfully conceived buildings, policies, artworks, garments, and digital designs that demonstrate art and design’s enduring relevance. From your first day through your final critique, you sharpen your practice and your understanding of the social and environmental impact of your actions. You’re challenged to master your chosen craft — from architecture to fashion to design management — while creating more reflectively, resourcefully, and responsibly than you ever have before. You graduate prepared to apply design’s transformative capacity to the challenge of making the planet more just and livable.

And in courses and internships, you work directly with local nonprofit, government, and commercial partners, gaining hands-on experience and developing networks that support you while you’re a student and beyond
Parsons’ 1,200+ faculty members represent a broad range of expertise and are acknowledged as leading practitioners and scholars in their fields. Each year, the roster of National Design Awards, given by Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, recognizes members of our community who teach, serve on crit panels, and lecture on campus. And year after year, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) celebrates Parsons’ faculty and graduates. Alumni panels, symposia, and guest lectureships on campus invite industry leaders to share their experience, insights, and contacts. As a member of this acclaimed academic community, you work directly with instructors to develop innovation and advance your creative industry.
