  • Media Management Hero

    This graduate certificate program provides a strong foundation of management principles and leadership skills for business professionals working or expecting to find work in the ever-changing global media landscape.

    The curriculum includes courses in industry perspectives, media management and leadership, media economics, information technologies, competitive strategies, and corporate responsibility, and specialized classes devoted to the businesses of film, music and social media.

    The Media Management certificate curriculum can be completed on campus in New York City, online from anywhere, or by combining online and on-campus study. It is designed to be completed in one year studying full time, but part-time students are welcome.

    Students who complete the Certificate in Media Management and apply for and are admitted to the MA in Media Studies program or the MS in Media Management program can transfer all credits taken for the certificate to the master's program, provided that grades of B or better were received in the courses.

    Students in this program also benefit from the resources, student networks, and faculty expertise of a university-wide community engaged in management and entrepreneurship.

    How to Apply

    Most students have educational backgrounds or work experience in communication media or a related field, but the only prerequisite is a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

    Use the online application. The form includes detailed instructions and a description of all required documents (transcripts, etc.).

    Costs and Financial Aid

    Tuition is charged per credit (all courses are 3 credits), and students pay an $80 university services fee per academic term. Go to Registrar for current tuition tables and Student Financial Services for estimated other costs of attendance. Speak to an admission counselor if you are concerned about costs. Sometimes students in this program can obtain reimbursement from their employers.

    All U.S. citizens and permanent residents who file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) are considered for loans and grants based on need. The New School's federal school code is 002780. Members and veterans of the U.S. armed forces may be eligible for financial aid from the U.S. Veteran's Administration. The HEGIS code for this certificate program is 0599.00.

    Articulation Agreements

    An articulation agreement with John Cabot University enables students enrolled in a BA program at JCU to take classes at The New School and earn credit towards the certificate. if you are a John Cabot student, review the articulation agreement for deadlines and how to apply.
