The New School’s Parsons School of Design Announces New Pre-College Program in Shenzhen |
New York, December 20, 2019 — The New School’s Parsons School of Design, one of the world’s leading art and design schools, today announced that it will offer the university’s popular three-week, pre-college Design Studio course for the first time in Shenzhen. The innovative interdisciplinary program will be available exclusively through a partnership with China Resources Land and will help students succeed in an increasingly competitive higher education environment. The exciting pre-college program offers essential insights and skills for students ages 16-19 eager to pursue college-level studies in art and design. Featuring Parsons’ immersive approach to education, students will learn design methodology, concept development, how to conduct research, and valuable sketching and prototyping capabilities. Classes will visit exhibitions and events in Shenzhen for inspiration and research. Eligible students will earn three college-level credits upon successful completion of the program. Courses will be taught by Parsons’ world-class faculty, many of whom are top thought leaders and influencers in their respective fields. The curriculum includes an introduction to art and design disciplines, including fashion design, graphic design, and product design; the fundamentals of sketching, drawing, and making techniques using Adobe Creative Suite, digital photography, and 3D materials and processes; and how to effectively document work in analog and digital formats. Students will also have the opportunity to create projects to include in their portfolios for college applications and learn how to articulate their design process. Throughout the program, faculty will offer guidance on developing portfolio content and applying to top art and design colleges abroad. Coursework will be supplemented by guest lectures from Parsons admissions counselors as well as working artists and designers.
