Parsons School of Design Summer Intensive Studies Program Available Online for the First Time




 

New York, June 18, 2020 --The New School’s Parsons School of Design is offering its popular Summer Intensive Studies program online for the first time. Led by Parsons’ world class faculty, this dynamic online learning experience is designed to provide pre-college and college/adult learners with an intensive introduction to art and design fields. Offering a robust online teaching, learning, and making experience, Summer Intensive Studies will bring Parsons innovative courses to students anywhere in the world. 

Summer Intensive Studies is an immersive and interactive three week program, running from July 6 - July 24. Developed by a multi-disciplinary team of Parsons acclaimed faculty, this hands-on, project-based learning and discovery program will provide participants with a strong foundation in the principles of art and design through creative and technical instruction. Classes will be taught through a combination of synchronous and asynchronous sessions, providing real-time access to faculty as well as opportunities to interact with classmates. Online demonstrations, virtual field trips, and special guest lectures will also provide creative and technical instruction, assisting students with developing a strong foundation. 

Programs are available for pre-college students ages 16-18 and college/adult students ages 19+ in the following areas:

  • Drawing & Painting

Learn drawing and painting techniques through real-time online instruction while exploring how to visually investigate ideas and express messages clearly.

  • Fashion Design

Explore traditional and non-traditional approaches to fashion design, from research to experimental making and presentation, while receiving daily real-time creative instruction.

  • Graphic Design & Illustration

Through the dynamic relationship of illustrative art and graphic design, learn how to creatively communicate original concepts, craft narratives, and establish personal design and brand identities.

  • Constructed Environments

Through technical skill building and virtual field trips, learn aspects of architectural, interior, and product design, including an understanding of the spatial relationships needed to interpret the built environment.

  • Digital Photography & Video

Learn and practice how to express your unique point of view through the visual storytelling arts of digital photography and video.

  • Portfolio Development: College Prep (only for pre-college level)

Re-envision your current body of art and design work and become empowered to create meaningful portfolio presentations for the college admissions process.
