  • Live the Writer's Life in New York City

    Many Voices. One Community.

    Workshop with Remarkable Faculty

    Write Your Book

Live the writer's life in New York City. Our creative writing graduate program allows you to join a community of diverse voices, plug into New York's publishing world, and build a network that will support you through graduation and beyond.

MFA Creative Writing students develop their craft in workshops and literature seminars led by an internationally recognized faculty with close ties to New York publishing and the city's literary scene. Courses and events are held in the evening, enabling students to work during the day while in the program.

This two-year, full-time creative writing program offers concentrations in:

    • Fiction
    • Nonfiction
    • Poetry
    • Writing for Children and Young Adults

If you're thinking about pursuing your master's in creative writing, find your place in a center of learning where creativity, support, and experimentation come together at The New School.

    Many voices. One community.

The New School offered the first academic creative writing workshop in 1931 and pioneered a new philosophy of education. The idea: Students would make their own lives and their own stories part of their education. Today The New School continues to celebrate and cultivate daring and diverse new voices through its creative writing graduate program. The value of this approach is reflected in the publications and achievements of our MFA Creative Writing graduates and faculty, updated regularly on our blog.
